First Unity is a spiritual center that welcomes all. We are committed to inspiring personal greatness and transforming our world with love.
Our church features a spiritual education program, a prayer ministry, Wings Bookstore, the Unity Café, support groups and a variety of events, activities, and classes throughout the week.
What Is Unity?
Unity is a spiritual movement founded in 1889, which has more than 900 Unity churches worldwide. Unity teaches positive, practical spirituality, which nurtures spiritual growth and understanding, and brings healing of mind, body and spirit.A primary teaching of Unity is the power of positive thinking. What we focus on expands. Our beliefs, thoughts and feelings produce results in our lives – either negative or positive.
Unity has been described as a common-sense religion. The Unity teachings have broad appeal to people of all faiths, Christian and non-Christian. Unity recognizes the value in all the world’s great religions, and we celebrate the richness of diverse religious beliefs and expression. Our churches attract people of all faiths – worshipping together, celebrating the one God.
Unity acknowledges Jesus as teacher and Wayshower, but we worship the Christ – God’s spirit in each of us – rather than the man Jesus. We take the principles of truth taught and exemplified by Jesus, and we apply them to our daily lives.
Unity accepts the Bible as its basic textbook of truth, and we interpret it spiritually, literally and metaphysically. Unity also accepts and respects statements of faith from many different avenues, for we believe that God is too great to be contained in just one book or one concept or one philosophy. We believe that God is absolute good, and that God is present in all creation.
